methods and applications
of radioanalytical chemistry
Aloha! Welcome to the homepage of the MARC conference.
The MARC conference series' most recent conference was MARC VII held in
2006 held in Kailua-Kona. Previous conferences were held in 1987, 1991,
1994, 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2006 respectively. The original idea and
concept for these conferences was the result of a technical group
meeting in the "Cable Car Bar" during the 1975 American Nuclear
Society's Fall Meeting held in San Francisco, California. The MARC
conferences grew out of the series of conferences held previously at the
University of Missouri and later in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico from 1969 to
1984 which focused primarily on activation analysis and its application
to environmental and biological sciences. Since the field of activation
analysis and its applications are comprehensively reviewed every four
years or so in the Modern Trends in Activation Analysis (MTAA)
conferences, the most recent of which was held in Washington, 1999, the
organizers of the MARC conferences decided that the broader scope of
radioanalytical chemistry and its applications should be covered. Since
MARC I in 1987, this series of conferences has become the major
international forum for discussion of advances in radioanalytical
chemistry and its applications, despite the somewhat remote location for
many participants. A wide variety of topics were covered in the
scientific program of MARC VI including environmental radioactivity
measurements, activation analysis, biology and medical applications,
radiation detectors and instrumentation, nuclear proliferation
prevention and safeguards, education, and mass spectrometry methods for
detecting radioactive materials.
Information for the MARC VIII is now available. Please use the navigation bar to the left for the most recent information.
A link has been provided to the 2006 MARC VII conference where information can be found concerning the final program and publication status of the proceedings. Please contact Sam Glover or Steve LaMont if you have any
questions.
We look forward to seeing you in 2009.
